The Heroes of Steamboat Springs: Routt County Search and Rescue

Steamboat Springs, Colorado, is renowned for its year-round outdoor adventures, but the rugged terrain of the Rocky Mountains can often lead to dangerous situations. When misfortune strikes in the backcountry, the Routt County Search and Rescue team is the first to respond. This all-volunteer organization consists of approximately 40 dedicated individuals who provide life-saving services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, entirely free of charge. Among these volunteers is Matt Carson, the Routt County District Attorney, who balances his professional career with the demanding work of mountain rescue. The team specializes in navigating extreme conditions, including deep snow, mountain passes, and avalanche zones. Their commitment to the community ensures that even on a person's worst day, help is just a call away. By dropping everything at a moment's notice, these Everyday Heroes maintain the safety and spirit of the Steamboat Springs community.
